Tennis is without a doubt my favorite thing in the whole world. Iwould like nothing better than to go out on some nice clay courts and play tennisfor a good 2-3 hours. With Tennis on Campus I’ve been able to meet and playwith people who are just like me. So what’s wrong with things the way they are? Nothing! But that doesn’t mean we can’t try to make things better. In short, whatthis document contains is a detailed proposition for a major modification andminor rebranding of the Florida Tennis on Campus Series into the Florida Tennison Campus Tour.Proposal ã   Junior tournaments do it. Adult tournaments do it. Even the ATP/WTA does it.What is it they all do? It’s very simple. When we have our tournaments, the 3years I’ve been playing, things have been run exactly the same, year after year.Tournaments at major Florida universities. The school decides what format itstournament will be. Dates are also planned. Etc… This is fine. We can keep doingthis. Or, we can make things more interesting. What if, we made things more likethe ATP/WTA tour? How many tennis players have ever dreamt of being a professional on the pro tour? Pretty much all of us! That is why I feel that byformatting our tournaments like the ATP Tour we can make Tennis on Campusmore thrilling and engaging for everyone. What we would have is 4 “GrandSlam” tournaments throughout the year along with 2 “Masters 1000” tournamentsand 3 “Tour 500” events. All leading up to and ending with 2 “Tour Finals” for each semester. So instead of, “We have our first tournament at FSU thisweekend.” players will be saying, “Hey guys! We have our first Grand Slam atFSU this weekend!” By adding a sense of realism to Tennis on Campus, I really believe that things will be much more fun and exciting for players and audiences.  AJ Schuyler 3USTA Florida Tennis on Campus 2012 – 2013 Tour Grand Slam (2000 pts) ã   4 Grand Slams at the 4 largest Florida universities. o   UF (Florida Open) (September 8 th , 2012) o   FSU (Florida State Open) (October 6 th , 2012) o   UCF (Central Florida Open) (November 17 th , 2012) o   USF (South Florida Open) (February 23 rd , 2013) ã   The Grand Slams. 4 tournaments at the 4 largest universities inFlorida. This is where Florida schools bring their A games, andtheir A teams. ã   These are all World Team Tennis format. Tournaments run the way they were atMiami/Sectionals this past year. Pool play Saturday then Gold, Silver, and Bronze brackets played Sunday. Gold Bracket winner receives 2000 points. Pointdistribution is illustrated on page 6.TOC Masters 1000 (1000 pts) ã   2 Masters 1000 events at the next 2 Florida universities. o   FGCU (Dirty Bird Open) (November 10 th , 2012) o   UM (Ibis Open) (February 9 th , 2013) ã   These 2 Masters 1000 tournaments are two very importanttournaments in the Tour calendar. B teams are always the teams thatmake it to the semifinals of tournaments but never seem to make tothe finals. ã   The goal of the Masters 1000 tournaments will be to give the B teamsthe opportunity to shine and bask in the glory of winning a tournamenton the Florida Tennis on Campus Tour. Although the winner only gets 1000 points, every point matters in the race for the bids to the National Championship. ã   These tournaments are World Team Tennis format. Tournaments run the way theywere at Miami/Sectionals this past year. Pool play Saturday then Gold, Silver, andBronze brackets played Sunday. Gold Bracket winner receives 1000 points. Pointdistribution is illustrated on page 6.TOC Tour 500 Event (500 pts) ã   3 Tour 500 events at 3 new locations. o   Rollins Cup (Sept. 22 nd , 2012) o   Stetson Classic (October 20 th , 2012) o   FIT Invitational (January 26 th , 2013) ã   These 3 tournaments will serve as a chance for teams who don’t govery far in tournaments a chance to shine. Being lower tier events, what should happen is the higher ranked teams from the major schools are disinclined to play (Does Roger Federer play every ATP 500event? No.). But of course that doesn’t mean they’re not allowed to play. *In the event that theseschools cannot host thetournament, backuplocations will be used.  AJ Schuyler 4 ã   Adding these tournaments will give everyone the opportunity to win a tournamenton the Florida Tennis on Campus Tour and has the added benefit of giving morechances for people to be able to attend more than one tournament. And it will alsogive everyone the chance to play more tennis against their fellow students. ã   These tournaments are World Team Tennis format. Tournaments run the way theywere at Miami/Sectionals this past year. Pool play Saturday then Gold, Silver, andBronze brackets played Sunday. Gold Bracket winner receives 1000 points. Pointdistribution is illustrated on page 6.USTA Florida TOC Championships (1500 pts) ã   2 Florida Championship events one in the Winter and the other in theSpring. o   USTA Florida TOC Winter Championship o   USTA Florida TOC Spring Championship ã   With 2 opportunities to secure a bid to nationals, schools have morechances of competing in the National Championship than they havein the past. ã   The Winter Championship will be a clay court event at the FloridaTennis Center in Daytona Beach with schools from inside andoutside of Florida being able to participate in this event. ã   The Spring Championship will be a hard court event hosted at theSanlando Tennis Center in Altamonte Springs and will be the sameyear-end event as it has been in the past. ã   These tournaments are World Team Tennis format. Tournaments runthe way they were at Miami/Sectionals this past year. Pool playSaturday then a Gold and Silver bracket played Sunday with a luckyloser draw included into the tournament format. Gold Bracket winner receives 1500 points. Point distribution is illustrated on page 6.International Cup ã   A fun thing we could do at the end of the season in March** is put on a legitimateDavis Cup/Fed Cup Tournament. Not only will you be playing for your school but you’ll also be playing for a certain country! Organizers would email eachschool a list of 5 countries and from that list they choose which countries theywant to be. The tournament can be WTT or Davis Cup format. The tournamentcan be worth points or it can just be a fun social event. .
