  • 1. QIBLA IN RELIGION ISLAM Islam is a religion of peace and unity. All Muslims are united in religion Islam by their belief in One God ALLAH Almighty. They are all united in the ritual of prayer, acts of worship and by the direction of their worship. The Qibla or direction is not only about degrees of latitude or longitude it is about worshipping ALLAH Almighty in one direction. It is very important the Muslims turn their faces towards the right direction when performing Namaz.
  • 2. • The Holy Kaaba is the center of religion Islam as it is the House of ALLAH Almighty. It is the House that was built by Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) and His Son Hazrat Ismaeel (AS).In the recent era it becomes very easy to locate the direction of Qibla. Before the Holy Kaaba in Makkah, central point for Muslims was Masjid-Al-Aqsa or Bait-ul Muqqadis in Jerusalem. Changing the direction or Qibla of namaz establishes Holy Kaaba in Makkah as the fixed central point for worship for Muslims. • It is necessary to clear here that Muslims do not worship the Holy Kaaba, or its contents, Muslims only worship ALLAH Almighty. Muslims worship One True God ALLAH Almighty, the Most Merciful. The turning of the Muslims from different corners of world towards this Holy center five times everyday creates the inspiration of unity and oneness. The Arabic term for prayer is Salah and it shows a connection between the Muslim and ALLAH Almighty; when all Muslims face the same Qibla or direction it adds an extra attraction and love to the connection.
  • 3. • The Qibla direction was not always oriented towards city Makkah. The first Muslims prayed in a direction of the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Around sixteen months after Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and His followers migrated from city Makkah to the city of Madina, the direction or Qibla was changed towards the Holy Kaaba in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. One day, when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was performing noon namaz, the command came from ALLAH Almighty to change the direction of Qiblah from Baitul- Maqqdis to Grand Masjid of Holy Kaaba in city Makkah.
  • 4. • Thus the Qiblah or direction has a great significant role in bringing together all Muslims either they are from different nation, color, race, and tribe on this earth all regularly perform namaz five times a day in a similar direction. Being central to the worshippers in religion Islam, the Qiblah or direction serves as the heart of the Muslim Ummah of Islam, It is supplying life-blood to the spiritual existence of every Muslims all over the world and keeping the concept of brotherhood and unity.
