Through the application of scientificmethods, students will gain the ability to understand and address the various problems in thefield of electrical power engineering. They will be able to relate new scientific findings to prac-tical applications in the field. Further, students will learn how to apply their knowledge ofmathematics and electrical engineering to solve technical problems in a global social and econo-mic context.During an industrial internship of at last two months, students are trained in addressingpractical engineering problems. Flexibility and open-mindedness are major qualifications of theelectrical engineer.A candidate should have a recognised first degree (Bachelor of Science or Engineering) inElectrical Engineering awarded by an internationally recognised university or equivalent degree-awarding institution. Candidates should also have performed above average in their undergra-duate studies. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is recommended (not required). For English-taught programmes candidates must be able to speak and write fluent English(TOEFL 550 paper-based/213 computer-based or IELTS 6.0). English-speaking students will alsoattend a basic German language course that will start in August, two months prior to the begin-ning of the Master’s programme. Goals of the programmeFormal entrance requirements Final degree awarded Master of Science in Electrical Power Engineering Language of instruction EnglishFor this Master’s programme, there is also an equivalentprogramme taught entirely in German (Energietechnik). For more information on how to apply for the GermanMaster’s programme, please refer to www.zhv.rwthaachen.de/move/online/move/movein/portal/procedure.php?_language=enDuration of the programme Two years Beginning of the programme October  Structure of the programmeSpecial entrance requirements Power Systems IElectrical Machines IPower ElectronicsProtective RelayingElectro heatScientific ExcursionGerman Language I 1stSemester 2ndSemester  Power Systems IIElectrical Machines IIHigh-VoltageTechnology IEnergy EconomicsPower EngineeringLab IScientific ExcursionGerman Language II 3rdSemester4thSemester  Electrical DrivesPower CableEngineeringHigh-VoltageTechnology IIOperation ofinterconnectedPower SystemsPower EngineeringLab IIProject: Planningof electricalPower SystemsIndustrial Internship(8 weeks)Master’s Thesis(4 months) Students should have profound theoretical knowledge of Electrical Engineering, Higher Mathematics, and the Natural Sciences. The programme is comprised of three semesters of lectures, exercises and practical courses, along with an eight week industrial internship and a final Master’s thesis. During the eight-weekindustrial internship, students will be trained in solving practical engineering problems. TheMaster’s thesis is an independent scientific study to be completed within a fixed period of four months, which is completed by an oral presentation .Students are assessed through six individual exams. Additional credits will be earned throughseven additional courses. The programme also includes several excursions to industrial plantsand/or power utilities.
